Closure of a Mouth-Sinus Communication with a Palatal Rotation Flap

This mouth-sinus hole (Oro-Antral Fistula) was created when the patient had his Upper Left 7 (UL7) / Upper Left 2nd Molar removed. The X-ray (a PA) shows the bony defect behind the upper left premolars.

With the creation of the OAF, the floor of the maxillary sinus has herniated through into the mouth & has created an antral polyp.

In this case, the antral polyp & the OAF is excised.

Incisions are made into the palatal mucosa to create a flap that will cover the OAF.

 



The Palatal Rotation Flap has been brought buccally and sutured into place.
